Small But Powerful: The A220 Is Exceeding Pre-Pandemic Operations

The Airbus A220 appears to be the little plane that could. While most of the aviation industry is still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that Airbus' littlest jet has already forgotten about the crisis. In fact, scheduled flights are exceeding those from before the downturn!

I have seen the A220 from Air Canada here in Victoria airport. I still feel it is our Canadian plane

I believe the A220 is going to be a very successful airplane for the future, with its excellent fuel economy, newest avionics technology, and low-cost operations, etc. I think it's a superb little aircraft, it will be interesting to see if they 'do' build the -500 version.

Brilliant production. Shame Bombardier sold their soul down the river to Airbus on this amazing aircraft.

Hope PW engines issue has been sorted out. Any idea on A220-500?

I would love to see AA and United both get these planes soon

Airbus basically got this plane for "free" (i.e. Bombardier did all the development) thanks to Boeing's attempts to bully Bombardier in the courts, which drove them into the arms of Airbus. Not only did the bullying backfire spectacularly, but Boeing were then exposed themselves as running a shoddy operation that led to the 737 MAX debacle, with 346 corpses laid at their door, and the subsequent years-long groundings costing them untold billions. Their space arm isn't looking too hot either right now, it's all-in on the "oldspace" way of doing things, and is having its lunch eaten by SpaceX. Rarely has a megacorp ever gotten karma-smacked so heavily as Boeing has over the last four years.

"Small but Powerful" is not just a metaphor. Both the A220-100 and A220-300 are short-field runway rockets with oversized engines, a phenomenal pair of big wings and a ferocious climb rate.

You can take the aircraft out of Canada, but you can't take the "Canadian" out of the aircraft. Love this plane.

Delta has retired a lot of MD planes. These must be useful!

Bombardier C Series or Airbus A220, we know what it is. Another great Canadian airplane.

Absolutely love this plane. Fly it with Delta out of Dallas.

While other companies use the term "game-changer" as an empty marketing gimmick, this airplane really has changed the game!

I think the A220 was ahead of its time, and is perfectly suited to post-pandemic air travel. It has a capacity larger than most regional jets, but with a range similar to the A320 NEO family. This makes it very well suited for point-to-point air travel, which is the current direction most airlines are heading.

I fly on AC A220’s quite often. I smile when I walk on board. They’re a beautiful aircraft for sure! Well done Bombardier! 🙏🏻

Imagine if bombardier still owned the aircraft production... that would of been so cool!

Yes. Yes it is

The A220 is the best for Airlines during these times

The A220 is a very capable plane in it’s class. The low capacity, great efficiency and even the decent range (about 6, 400km or roughly 3, 500nmi) gives airlines the flexibility to basically name a route up to six hours long and they will assign A220 and see how it goes.

Update: I learned recently that the A220 has now been approved for ETOPS 180 certification, therefore be ready to start seeing transatlantic and overwater flights. Could also be used to hop between the islands in the pacific.

Airbus really nailed it with this plane, they got very lucky with the timing.
