Damn it, I cried AGAIN. This film keeps bringing me to tears every god dang time I watch it. The story, the visuals, the music. Everything about Your Name, is perfect, and Shinkai is such a wonderful person who makes wonderful films.

This is a movie that I loved and watched many times without ever understanding it. I could explain the plot of course, but as far as deeper meanings, I couldn’t have told you. I just loved the art, music, comedy, story, and I knew that I loved watching it.

I watched it a week ago with my newly found love of my life, and with a shiver down my spine like the end of Spirited Away, everything clicked. It made me realize everything I had to go through to get to the point where I could be a worthy partner for her. How throughout my life I was learning about how other people think and operate, what their lives are really like, learning empathy, specifically regarding women. And because of that, I can finally see her.

Considering the movie’s themes of how the linearity of time is an illusion, how cause and effect can run both ways, and how the threads we weave with others can transcend time and space…it was a lot.

It’s out there yall. If you’re settling, get out of there and go find it. Yes, YOU. Flawed, sometimes gross, warts and all you. Somebody has spent their whole life getting ready for you, and vice versa. Don’t settle for anything less.
