New Zealand entered a national lockdown on August 18, 2021, after a man in Auckland tested positive for Covid-19. It was the country’s first new case in six months. Schools, offices and all businesses other than essential services are shut across the country for an initial period of three days, while Auckland itself will remain in lockdown for a week. The drastic measure underscores New Zealand’s pandemic response, which unlike other nations aims to eliminate rather than suppress the spread of the virus.

They know that for every one known case, there are several hidden ones probably incubating.

Because they believe preventive action is always better than curative. A single case means a lot of uncover cases beneath. Their quick action is based on science, high level of knowledge, learning from others. Unlike... country that never learn, feeling overproud, those thing killing them into pieces.

I remember when NZ lifted almost all of the restrictions last May when there were no new cases. The restrictions were back 1 month later after a new positive case was detected though not lockdown. Now the UK (my country) did the same thing last month (including masks no longer mandatory) but with almosr 50k daily cases and 100 new deaths, though it was delayed from June after the Delta varient was present (around 3k daily cases at the time).

New Zealander here. It's no longer a half a dozen cases but about 10. Patient zero is still unknown. No doubt we will all do our part and stay home! Stay safe where ever you are in the world.😷👍

As a New Zealander, the majority of the population is behind this. Even talk at work of tougher restrictions.

It is never “just one case”. In NZ, “one case” means there are many more out there.
