Star Wars: Andor Review: Does It Live Up To Rogue One?

After the lackluster reception of The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm has found great success with its small-screen Star Wars projects on Disney+. From The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett to the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series, fans have been treated to a lot of new material they never thought they would see set in a galaxy far, far away. The latest Star Wars series is Andor starring Diego Luna. Reprising his role from Rogue One, Andor is a curious series as it is spun off from a very divisive Star Wars feature film and follows a character that not many fans were interested in seeing more of. But, with acclaimed writer Tony Gilroy on board for a limited, two-season commitment, Andor needs to prove it has a reason to exist. While the production values are the best we have yet seen from a Disney+ Star Wars series, Andor starts out as an underwhelmingly dull entry in the franchise before picking up steam four episodes in.

Star Wars has been very hit and miss, honestly. That is all I’ll say

Still love Revenge Of The Sith though. The Mandalorian is also amazing and so I even need to discuss the OT

Slow? Taking time to build characters? All the stuff they have botched so hard in the other shows? You just got me excited for this!

Just so everyone remembers; this is the same guy that gave a glowing review of She-Hulk. Yes, really.

Just watched the first three episodes and it was very good. In my humble opinion it is very well paced and I very much like the show taking its time on the characters, I also appreciate them making original content like this in this star wars universe.

The quality of this show is amazing. I love the slow paced focus on character and world building too a great episode 3 pay off.

I remember as a kid, then as an adult when Star Wars wasn't just a movie release, but a cultural event. When episode 1 was released back in 1999, it was like the Superbowl, March Madness, World Series, NBA finals, Bowl games, Stanley Cup, Oscars, and Golden Globes all rolled into one. Now there's so much Star Wars out there, it's not special anymore.

I disagree about it being slow. It’s a grounded regular guy view of the Star Wars universe. No force or this is the way fluff. It lets it breathe and know those characters and the world they live in

I’d rather have a two extra episodes for character and world building instead of a rushed tv show like the kenobi show was Tony Gilroy is a great filmmaker and he knows what he is doing. I wish he had done the kenobi show.

Sorry JoBlo.... your reviews lately (She Hulk, Rings of Power) have not been accurate. Can't trust you anymore.

Oh man, it's another Star Wars™ product by Disney®, I'm sure it's good and totally worth your time unlike every single one they produced before.

Milk it milk it milk it, and see what sticks pretty much what Disney does with all thier properties nowadays!!!

After the Rings of Power and Kenobi reviews, JoBlos credibility is in tatters.

That said, Disney is just recycling the same plots from the OT over and over. We'll probably end up getting a series about the band that played at the Mos Eisley cantina at some point.

Good to see the same channel that said She-Hulk was funny and engaging is now saying Andor will be too. I’m starting to notice a trend for some of these “reviews”.

"starts our dull" are you kidding me?!? This is the single best star wars property that exists. The show is supernaturally good in every single aspect. One way out and bix road are two of the best TV show episodes of *all time*. Simply incredible to watch.

OK, it's starts to get good 4 episodes in but how many episodes total? If it's 20 episodes, then good. It takes a bit to get good. But it sounds like it's 12 episodes, so, not a great average but might be OK. The most important thing is that it needs to play on something other than Disney+.

So, Disney did a spinoff limited series, based on a bad spinoff movie. Good idea. But also the best example of GIGO available. To be fair, Rogue One did have a decent third act, but there were too many plot threads that were abandoned. A large number of characters with any common sense, plus no real character development. In short, it was a bad movie. JMO

I hope we get a prequel to the prequel to the prequel to the original Star Wars.

Fans complain there wasn’t enough political intrigue in the Prequel Trilogy. Disney gives fans political intrigue and they complain anyway.

If I were Disney, I’d file for divorce from said “fans”.
