From what ive seen, there are principles in feng shui that seem to line up with basic evolutionary psychology. Rooms with lots of doors and angles tend to make people feel anxious because they cant see all directions to detect threats etc. Meaning yeah, sleeping with a door behind you feels bad.

So his jokes about the sniper in the window are actually a pretty accurate representation of what that part of your mind is assessing and sending you "worry about this" messages in response to

I must admit. I have slept in an empty dry bathtub before. A/C was broken and I was trying to keep cool.

I mean, I look a little critically at feng shui. However I have to admit I watch these because the room layouts you suggest always feel better than they were before.

I'm more secular minded but to me its no different than looking at a room and being able to tell "vibes are off", it makes sense theres better ways to add cohesion to a room, energy aside, by how you feel living in the space

I am a Physics mayor. No Feng Shui is not „Scientifically proven“. But we need to understand that not everything needs to be acientifically proven.
Yeah our doctors and engineers need to follow best practises. But when it comes to where you put your Bed down; feng shui is probably a reasonable advise giving entity.

There are also some papers on this subject most of them (of whoch I looked at while on the toilet) finding that feng shui is, to quote one paper, neither a superstition nor a science.
Others saying it appears to be a practical measure to simplify decision processes with no apparent negative effect.
All ppera conclude that there is a distinct lack of data limiting the studies findings.

So basically, at the very least: Feng Shui is a set of rules how to lay out your home, a blueprint if you will, that you could blindly follow and wouldnt take harm from, but its also true that you might also get away with just randomly aranging your furniture as you see fit and come of equally well.

I personally find feng shui rather intuitive and it kind of helps explain comfort to me. So Im a „believer“, although Im not experienced at all in this field.

Try sleeping in a normal bed but in bad positions, like put your bed facing to the door or something like that

Don’t know if the ring proves anything but I’ve been sleeping with the bedroom door closed and I feel a huge difference in the amount of energy coming in. It’s open when I want to feel part of the house and closed when I want to rest and I truly do feel so much more at peace.

Would have been more interesting if you experiment it in the same bedroom.
At first the bedroom would respect feng shui rules and then for the second experiment you make sure the same bedroom doesn t respect the rules.
Can you do it 😊

@dearmodern please use the same technique with different bed placements/formats! Have others participate as well to diversify the findings.

I feel like this is one of those things where whether it has scientific basis shouldn’t really matter. Because it’s about making a space that you’re comfortable in. That’s an inherently subjective thing, a form of self expression. To say “you shouldn’t do that because it’s not scientififically proven to be beneficial” is like walking up to someone who likes making art and telling them there’s no concrete evidence that actually gives them fulfillment

Also: these rules are thousands of years old. Modern houses have indoor plumbing and appliances, so we dont have to worry about: animals entering our home and landing on us, smoke from cooking or heating fires, fumes from workshops or latrines.

It's like how, if you look at Kosher Laws, it's essentially a basic guide to avoiding infection, food-born illness, and communicable disease. I bet feng shui is similar. If you applied these rules to a Chinese village from 2000 years ago, you'd notice patterns of sanitation and safety

I’m not sure if you are for real into feng shui, or you are just a clever sims pro-player. But it doesn’t matter. Same skillset, and you are good in it.

I feel like there are some confounding variable in this trial. Quality of the “bed” and “sleeping position” to name some.

I would actually be interested in an actual experiment where you let numerous people sleep in controlled environments, where the beds are always equal, but the Feng Shui is not.

Can you do this again but test the bed in various positions around the same room? Try all the don'ts of bed placement, but be in a bed. Repeat each test enough to get an average.

Oddest place I've slept was on a kitchen counter. Drank too much at a house party and the floor was disgusting. I cleared off the counter and grabbed a blanket from my car. It wasn't great but it worked.
