Lexus GX vs Toyota Land Cruiser

The Lexus GX & Toyota Land Cruiser share a platform and much of their technology. But there are differences. Which one do we prefer?

The Lexus’ 14 inch screen is great, but the usable space is 12 inches. The bottom two inches of the Lexus are AC controls.

I prefer the styling and name of the Land Cruiser. But for the money the GX is a much wiser investment. Better engine, better interior, 3rd row and 50% more towing capacity. Now if Toyota put the V6 in the LC then that would be my choice. But the hybrid 4 cylinder is a deal breaker.

Good luck getting either one for MSRP! They’re over $80K when you add all the options plus $10K dealer markups!

TLDR version you’re better off with a base GX 550 over a loaded Toyota Land Cruiser. Toyota has been doing a nice job with their recent model updates, their pricing is going to be the death of them. I think the msrp for the Land Cruiser spec’s out was 67k and the GX 550 was 69k with a v6. At that point I would just drop the extra 2k because it’s negligible at that price point.

Ya on paper they might be a couple thousand difference but at the dealers the Land Cruiser is 65-70k and the gx is like 80-85k

Toyota successfully priced the LC out of the market. For less money you get more with the 4runner or for slightly more you get a better vehicle with the GX

It would be more comparable to Land Cruiser LC300 rather than the smaller Land Cruiser Prado.
