This weeks video is a payed book review on Travels Through Middle Earth - The Path of a Saxon Pagan by Alaric Albertsson! I know, I know, it's not about Norse Paganism but Anglo-Saxon Paganism. BUT there is a lot of overlap between the two and for me personally looking at the similarities and differences between the two was incredibly interesting! So if you're an Anglo-Saxon Pagan or even a Norse Pagan or Germanic Pagan interested in taking a look over the fence - I definitely recommend this book!

My channel is all about witchcraft, norse paganism and spirituality in general. If you're curious about my upcoming videos, make sure to subscribe!

I like Alric Albertssons work. I came across his work in 2010 when i brought the orginal version of this book. I am looking foward to getting this new version. Anorther book by him i recommand is 'A HANDBOOK OF SAXON SORCERY & MAGIC'. Being English formost as i am part German (my Fathers Mother) i wanted to find out about this part of my heritage. I have used one or two things in my craft from Saxon Magic which i have adapted for my craft. I have to agree with you on the parts about family etc.

Thanks for this review, perfect timing for me! I am German but have ancestors from England among other places, so I had a plan to learn more about Anglo-Saxon Pagans next year to further connect with my ancestors. I had already seen books by Alaric Albertsson, but wanted to do some research first to see if he was from the right wing. You just saved me the research now. And I love it when archaeology & science-based historical backgrounds are taken up, is also not so often in the community.
And separating the holidays from Wicca, clarifying that sounds great, I need this book 😅

I'm fairly new to your channel and paganism.
Thanks.
Your knowledge and the way you convey your bias, knowledge, opinions are all appreciated.
I'm leaning towards Norse, Celtic and Saxon paganism.

As someone who is really into Anglo-Saxon language studies as well as witchcraft (well, this is paganism, but there are similarities) - this is so cool!

I personally view any belief as inclusive to anyone who shows respect by investing time through effort into learning. But for me without proper respect regardless of ethnicity, it is exclusive.
Example: When I first went into norse paganism, I learned and put respect into my practice for what I have been learning, setting aside time and investing my efforts. However I didn’t feel much connection until I later came to the conclusion that belief is not entitled or limited to blood.
So even when looking into exploring the mestizo part of my ancestry, I know I have to not only show respect to my ancestors but also to current practitioners of those beliefs because they have the right to decide who to teach. (I appear more European) so they can deny me and that be their rights, just as I believe any practitioner of any belief around the world is capable of deciding for themselves.
So, regarding any practices around the world, I believe that if it’s possible to learn from someone ethnically part of that culture, that would most respectful, regardless of blood anyone with proper respect can practice spirituality:)
If anyone disagrees, so be it, so long as we all regard each other’s humanity:)

This might be petty but it really rubs me the wrong way that the title of this book seems to conflate Saxon with Anglo-Saxon

Would love a somewhat deeper explanation of why the groups and elements you critique are 'problematic'. I do not doubt you as the Norse paganism movement unfortunately is full of nazis and white supremacists, but I would both love the education and I think it would add weight to your critique. Also it's hard to convince someone whom does not agree with you if you don't cite any reasons.
Ofc I do not imply that it's your responsibility to convert fkn nazis, you obviously work hard to have a platform free of those, I'm talking about less extreme folks who agree that fascism is in fact bad but maybe don't understand why some organizations are tied to these backgrounds and believes.

Ofc you should not feel forced to do alot of extra work, and I'm not asking for a full historical breakdown of each organization just maybe listing a few things associated with each problematic party (such as only allowing white people, cultism, hatespeech or cultural appropriation etc) if you know them! Mayhaps with a lil "allegedly" preface for legal safety <3
