This video explores the concept of Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) from Theme C of the IB Physics SL & HL courses. Firstly, the conditions for simple harmonic motion are explained. The examples of a mass-spring system and the simple pendulum are discussed in relation to the definition of SHM and the formulae for their periods of oscillation are introduced. This is followed up by a qualitative discussion of the relationship between displacement, velocity and acceleration for an object undergoing simple harmonic motion. Finally, the video explores the relationship between displacement of the oscillator and its kinetic and potential energy.
