How to spot FAKE GOLD

The brown look in fake gold is from oxidation. When making fake gold items, they alloy about 1% to maybe 2% gold with brass. This makes the brass look like gold when polished. Over time it will start to have some oxidation.

I have experience in handling gold. Sometimes without proper testing it can sometimes be difficult to determine if the piece is authentic. There are pieces coming in from Asian and Far East countries that are marked as authentic and they are not. They are very well finished to look real.

I disagree with length and size because alot of chains can be long and big in width but also be hollow hold it depends on if it's semi solid hollow or solid

I disagree with the weight, most people will have a heavier fake chain I have a solid 14k ring that is feather light while I got one that's been planted that weights 3x as much 🤷‍♂️

Dude I just wanted to check my shit but it doesn’t even matter man, my great grandpa gave his chain to me before he died. Shit passed all the checks and got it appraised but this shit has more value than gold ever would

I've found the reason why the fake one is brown and on some occasions silver looking, is because what the base metal is. What I mean by that is, the glazing over the metal. Most plated gold that is fake is over brass or stainless steal. In other cases it's a different metal. The reason why it discoloration is the tarnishing from use
