It was an American designed airframe but the original Allison engine didn’t have the power and economy at higher altitudes where it escorted the bombers

The Mustang was NOT a British airplane. It was designed and built in the US.

The bombers were not unprotected. P-38's were getting the bombers to Germany well before the Mustang. By the time the P-51 came along the Luftwaffe's back was already broken. The Mustang cleaned up after.

The Merlin, but more importantly, high grade fuel. The Germans couldn't make as good fuel as the allies could. This gave their engines a huge disadvantage when it came to how much power they made..

İt's a incredible plane and I saw this plane while flying.Engine is just roaring.
İn many countries 12.7 mm machine guns classified as guns so there is nothing wrong with terminology.
