AYDIN REİS and SEYDİ ALİ REİS Submarines to Receive Critical Components Produced with National Capabilities

AYDIN REİS and SEYDİ ALİ REİS, constructed as a part of New Type Submarine Project (YTDP), will receive their “Section 50” compartments that were produced in Türkiye. The sections were delivered to Gölcük Shipyard Command, through shipment by sea, with the Defence Industry Agency announcing the development on June 13 with a press release.

Section 50 is constructed at Gürdesan Gemi Makinaları Sanayii Ticaret AŞ at Yalova, with STM providing coordination and engineering efforts. The section houses the systems that facilitate the launch of torpedoes, the main armament of the submarine, and guided missiles. The Section 50 of YDTP submarines house 8 torpedo tubes in total.

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) constructed the first two Section 50s for YDTP in Germany, with the remaining 4 being constructed in Türkiye. STM and Gürdesan delivered the Section 50 for the 3rd submarine of YTDP, MURAT REİS, in September 2021.
