OUR FRIEND tells the inspiring and extraordinary true story of the Teague family—journalist Matt (Casey Affleck), his vibrant wife Nicole (Dakota Johnson) and their two young daughters—and how their lives are upended by Nicole’s heartbreaking diagnosis of terminal cancer. As Matt’s responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple’s best friend Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel) offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.

This movie is different than I expected - more real. Humor and tears when you go through terrible times. I love it.

The only thing I will say now is that if Dakota or the movie does not get some recognition of awards, I will not get mad, because it has been a challenge for the actors, the director and especially for Matthew and his family, and I am happy and excited to know that we will see this movie soon, that it will leave a beautiful message, just like Nicole was.

This looks so sweet and sad. I'm only in my early 30's but I've noticed I can't watch movies like this anymore, it's too realistic and upsetting which I think is because as you get older you realize how precious life really is and how much certain things matter vs how little other things matter and then add in having lost a loved one it's just punch to the gut and a stomp on the heart. This is the movie to watch when I am emotionally blocked and need help releasing all the pent up feelings and tears.

Such a great movie … my little sister passed away when she was just 29, married for 6 months or so . She had ovarian cancer too. By the time she got diagnosed it was already on her liver. But she used to smile all the time even the day she died. Dakota made me cry again after 17 years and I am still crying.
Casey Affleck was great and Jason Segel was phenomenal. After watching this movie every one will crave for a friend like him.
As I went through the same path like her husband did I got so emotional.
My sister’s husband did not get married for long time until 2019. He is still one of our family (even he was married only for 6 months and never had a chance to have a kid ) and became a father of a baby boy. He visited my parents house with his wife and son. We also accepted his wife as our sister.
Some pain never goes away.

This was the most amazing movie I had never heard of and randomly decided to watch. Just incredible performances from all of the actors. Absolutely loved it.

Saw this at TIFF in September 2019! It's been so long I almost forgot about it, and they changed the name from The Friend to Our Friend. Pretty good movie, very sad though obviously. It was so cool seeing the director and the real-life Matt do a Q&A after the movie, you can tell it's very important to both of them. Excited to see it again!
