Regrettably, it seems the Russian military has used TOS-1A to hit certain parts of Ukraine with TOS-1A that fires thermobaric rockets.

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, told reporters on 28 Feb after meeting with members of the U.S. Congress that Russia had used a thermobaric weapon, known as a vacuum bomb, in its invasion of her country.

Markarova said after a meeting with lawmakers,
"They used the vacuum bomb today, the devastation that Russia is trying to inflict on Ukraine is large."

There are no comments from the Russian side regarding this.

In this video, Defense Updates why Russia's use of TOS-1A is an extremely disturbing development?

Destruction of these types of target are what Ukraine forces should prioritize

War is war but firing such a weapon on civilians and in citys is evil and should be a war crime !

Not a war crime to use thermobaric weapons unless they intentionally target civilians, same as with any other artillery.

The way that these thermobaric weapons inflict brutal human suffering has not been explained in detail.
Yes they do tear lung tissue by causing a vacuum after the initial blast wave but in reality it's actually much more gruesome than that!
Because the partial vacuum effect of burning & consuming all surrounding air is so powerful, it doesn't simply suck the the air out of their lungs, rather it pulls the air out so violently that it collapses their lungs & drags pieces of lung tissue out of their mouth. Then the wall of fire hits them, that depending on how much shelter remains to protect them from burning, might cause them horrrific burns but not necessarily kill them, so potentially causes them to simultaneously bleed & asphyxiate in brutal agony for upto a number of minutes before they die!

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the British military also used thermobaric weapons in its AGM-114N Hellfire missiles (carried by Apache helicopters and UAVs) against the Taliban in the War in Afghanistan.[55]

The US military also used thermobaric weapons in Afghanistan. On 3 March 2002, a single 2, 000 lb (910 kg) laser guided thermobaric bomb was used by the United States Air Force against cave complexes in which Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters had taken refuge in the Gardez region of Afghanistan.[56][57] The SMAW-NE was used by the US Marines during the First Battle of Fallujah and the Second Battle of Fallujah.

Reports by the rebel fighters of the Free Syrian Army claim the Syrian Air Force used such weapons against residential area targets occupied by the rebel fighters, such as during the Battle of Aleppo[58] and in Kafar Batna.[59] A United Nations panel of human rights investigators reported that the Syrian government had used thermobaric bombs against the rebellious town of Al-Qusayr in March 2013.[60

Did this used to be called fuel air munition?

I am not so sure about the suffocation effects unless the targets are in a building or cave. Nature shots a vacuum and in an open area, the air should rush back in. However if you where to fire one onto a cave, or near its mouth, those inside are in a world of hurt.

The "adjacent area" from which all the oxygen is used up is only the area in which the fireball actually is. There is nothing the "using up the oxygen" can damage that the fireball did not already do

Maybe we should accidently leave a couple MoABs laying around the Polish Airport the Ukrainian pilots have been using.

⚠️REQUEST⚠️: Please do a video on the 12, 000 strong Chechen Infantry Division and their war criminal leader, Ramzan Kadyrov. Putin deployed them to Ukraine.

The USA and Britain have also used these weapons.

They have been used since the Vietnam war, Iraq, in Afghanistan and Syria.

As I understand it, if one can keep the gas outside a bunker then the chances of surviving such a blast increase dramatically.

That means any such shelter needs a sturdy door and roof so that it can be sealed from the outside.

A shipping container might serve as such a shelter, especially reinforced with some cross bars welded into them.

In this regard one might learn from preppers. e.g. see

Rather than bury them, one might instead put them inside buildings (if they can fit) to get extra protection and to conceal them as well.
