Checked out some of the construction sites for California’s (very very) long-awaited high speed rail. I’ll get into this topic more soon, but here is what it looks like right now.

I recently needed to go from LA Union Station to Berkeley. How I wish I could’ve gone by HSR. It would’ve saved me at least an hour door to door and I could’ve avoided the transfers, security screening, waiting, and the indignity of the flying bus (a.k.a. Southwest).

Some may complain about the cost and the time it takes to build this project.. but High Speed Rail is being adopted around the developed world.. and if we are not able to succeed in building it and other such projects, America and its citizens will be left in the past.

From nowhere to nowhere...at extreme expense.

Damn, this is exciting. Years after the train is running no one will remember the cost overruns. There may be complaints about routes and maybe some accidents (hopefully not), but the "WHAT ABOUT THE COST" crowd will be a footnote. The original Shinkansen line in Japan went way over budget and rightfully no one ever talks about that, they talk about how damn pleasant it is to take the train there.

I took a bullet train from Hiroshima to Tokyo and even considering that it broke down for an hour and the air conditioner turned off during that time in the summer, it still got us there faster and in more comfort than a plane could (when you factor in the pains of security, transport to and from airport, etc.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, Indonesia has built the world's first high-speed railway established in the Southern Hemisphere, named Whoosh!

So excited that it is finally happening. We got a long way to go to catch up with Europe, China, and Japan!

It's hella over reasonable expense AND not a single section is complete. That is a lot of taxpayer money squandering to give train enthusiasts a shiny unusable toy.
