I live 15 minutes from the falls on the Ny side. Was just there hiking last weekend....walked to Bridal falls as well...standing right above that powerful natural wonder is amazing and I advise anyone who can to at least go once....it's breath taking. I sometimes forget how lucky I am to live so close to one of the wonders of the world. And devils hole is awesome, but the hike there ...my father did once see a naked native American just walk by him...he never said anything and didn't look at my father once...now my father looks back and wonders if it was a spirit...a break in never know but it was a story he still talks about 30 years later and confuses him. Cool video!

Love this video! I was born and raised in NF, New York. I moved back to the city 20 years ago and my home is less than 200 yards from the gorge, just north of the Raimbow Bridge. Falling asleep is never a problem with the perpetual roar of the Falls year-round.

A couple points to add or to
* on the US side, the Falls, gorge, whirlpool and Devil's Hole park system is not a national park....they are a series of New York State parks, the Falls being the oldest state park in the USA.
*The American Falls have been stopped by dams twice in history. The Horseshoe (Canadian) Falls have never stopped flowing, as the engineering know-how does not exist to halt such a massive flow.
*The rocks at the base of the Falls are known as talus.
*The Niagara River's flow, at it's narrowest point about a half mile from the falls, are among the few class 6 river rapids in the world. The rapids are considered un-navigable as anything but specially-made watercraft would be destroyed in the stretch below the Falls just before the Whirlpool in the Niagara River.
* The reduction in water flow for diversion to Power-generation plants upriver is imperceptible to the casual observer. Reservoirs sevrral miles from the falls hold the diverted water for continuous hydropower production in plants located in both Canda and the USA.

I live 15 minutes from the canadian falls, there is actually a tunnel that you buy tickets to, that allows you to walk under the falls, you can stand about 4 feet away from the actual falling water while underneath and behind the falls. you can truly understand it's power while looking into the falling water, while hearing, and feeling its roar.
