Joyce remembering a phone number by heart was definitely an 80's talent.

Max is in a coma but she’s not dead yet. Vecna/001 technically “killed” Max. Lucas mentions that her heart stopped for one minute and that’s how the portal opened and why the clock chimed four times. But Eleven somehow saves her. At the hospital Eleven goes into Max’s mind but can’t find her. It’s just empty. In the massacre scene 001 told eleven that the kids are not dead but still in his head. Papa also mentions how 001 consumes the people he kills. My theory is that Max’s consciousness/soul is in his head and if he’s defeated all the captured souls escapes. Since Max’s body is still intact her soul has a place to come back too, while the others can’t be saved because their bodies are completely destroyed.

The Pulp Fiction reference coming from Robin was so appropriate, since her mother, Uma Thurman was such a huge part of that movie.

Actually, the sword is the Atlantean Sword from Conan the Barbarian. I recognized it immediately when I saw it.

Talisman not Tailsman T-A-L-I not T-A-I-L, Viki's boyfriend was played by Maya Hawkes brother in real life, Levon Roan Thurman Hawke. My favorite was the It reference when all the balloons popping were filled with blood. Vecna reminds me so much of Pennywise.

Purple Palm Tree Delight is the unsung hero of the season. If Jonathan didn't have the joint in his pocket, the surf brother's employee would not have left the pizzeria so the heroes could defend earth.

Fun fact; the sword David Harbor as hopper wields, is based off Conan’s sword from Conan the barbarian and he was gifted the actual sword after filming. Dave posted on Instagram about it today

if not mentioned already, When the Army commander comes in and orders the search of the facility he directly quotes "Aliens" with the line "quarter and search by pairs (or twos), Hicks take the upper level..."

What about the scene when the army enters the bunker by blowing up the doors. It gave me Star Wars a new hope, the opening scene vibe. Even the general coming in after the resistance was killed was like Vader.

The Demogorans in the tanks made me think of Independents day. Also, the long tentacles things also reminded of Independents Day. Remember the alien wrap his tentacles around the doctors neck? He'll, that whole Russian lab scene me of Independents Day. Except the Russians didn't have the elaborate money as Area 51.

it was shown in the final episode how the killings opened the portal to the upside down. the mind flayer from season 3 was built to take el's powers, specifically her ability of opening doors, so vecna could use it to bring the upside down to hawkins

The only named military soldier during the assault on Dr. Brenner's lab was "Hicks", a possible nod to a character of the same name from the film Aliens (1986), Cpl. Dwayne Hicks.
