Midnight Oil perform 'The Dead Heart', live at Ellis Park, South Africa in 1994. Originally featured on the album 'Diesel and Dust'. Written by Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Peter Garrett.

Having steadfastly refused to play in South Africa whilst in the grip of apartheid, this concert is a celebration of the inauguration of Nelson Mandela in front of a packed Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg during 1994.

The intensity that very few live bands will reach... And provided with message of humanity that most bands lack totally. This band is forgotten and bit ignored but respectwd ever.

I grew up listening to the Oilers in college in Hungary and in the USSR. I would love to meet Peter and the crew one day !
One of the best damn' bands with a message for humanity !

thank you peter, I remember listening to my lp albums in my room in my youth and growing up to your band. I saw you twice and danced all night .. YOU made this 57 year old man happy and I think I am going to dance all by myself in my room while I still can the dead heart ok here i go do do do do do do do what a memory

I play this whenever the politicians of the world piss me off wihh inevitable media overload (quite often these days). Watching Rob Hirst hit the perfect beat, all smiles and just living that moment lifts my spirit no end. I can now face the world again, tut loudly and wish I was back seemly Victorian era of communication. The 90's.

Saw them on this tour, but in Cape Town ... I have seen a LOT of top bands around the world ... but this concert/tour/band still stands out! :-)

Im a Kiwi and got say there are some absolutely awesome Ausi bands from the 80's and 90's, Midnight Oil, Icehouse, Hunters and Collectors, Jimmy Barnes, Inxs, the list goes on, cheers !
