I actually have this theory that everyone can see in color when they're born, then it disappears at puberty, and only appears when you first make eye contact with your soulmate, which is why no one freaks out about the color itself when it happens. Maybe Thor met Val and yn at the same time and saw colors and assumed it was yn. Yn went along with it because she felt bad/didn't find their soulmate yet. Val only asked yn if she saw colors, because Thor's her soulmate.
