Top 5 PS4 Problems With Solutions

Top 5 PS4 Problems:
1) HDMI port problems. The first few models of PS4 had a huge problem with bad HDMI ports. The PS4 Slim and PS4 PRO don't have as much of a problem with it but it still does happen.
2) Turns On Then Back Off/Blue Light of Death. This is a common problem with all PS4's...even the newer models have this problem.
3) Overheating. Most consoles that have this problem either have a faulty fan or they need to be cleaned. Many times cleaning and replacing the thermal paste will fix this issue.
4) Disc Drive Problems. Many consoles have had problems with the rollers popping out of place when the disc is pulled out quickly. They also have had a lot of problems with the laser lens not reading discs.
5) Cockroaches. This is a common problem, especially with consoles from the southern US. PS4's are perfect cockroach houses. Bug infested consoles are not covered under warranty so Sony will not fix them. The best thing to do is to keep them from getting in in the first place.

I’m incredibly surprised to hear one of the most common problems isn’t with the touch sensitive buttons on the original PS4 that cause it to turn itself on/off and eject the disc sporadically, considering how many people experience this

Sony: “send us your ps4 so we can replace the hard drive for you, then we will clean the parts and that will be an extra 75-125$”

Hey, this is a very informative video! I appreciate having this compilation of common problems with these consoles so that in case anything does happen I can be sure to be prepared, or in the very least informed. I’m familiar with most of these problems, but the fixes are very useful to keep in mind! However, I do have a question that may or may not be completely unrelated to any of the issues mentioned here:
I have a FAT model PS4 (it’s a limited edition though so I believe it does have some slight improvements like power use in comparison to the launch models). Sometimes when I’m playing it, I may hear this quiet little “beep” coming from within the system. It’s not nearly as loud as the powering off or overheating beep, but it can be heard if you’re paying attention. I am not sure if it occurs in random increments or not, but it is somewhat concerning to me whenever I do hear it. I can’t recall if this was always something that happened, as the first couple of years I’ve had it have been a little blurry, but I do in fact believe this has been occurring for the past 2 years or so. Is this a sign of some unknown issue or is it the machinery within the console just doing it’s normal stuff whilst running? Thanks.

"There's bugs in the system..." Keep in mind, a new patch release doesn't resolve the problem... LMFAO

Yes, I bought a few ps4s that were broken and every one had a bad hdmi port, even had one that look like it had been repaired but the soldering was really bad. I never had a problem with my own personal day1 ps4 though and the hdmi has been plugged in/out 1000s of times

The solder balls cracking problem is common to all flip chips / BGA mountings (i.e. Xbox/PS2 onwards, strikingly prominent in the seventh generation with Xbox 360 and PS3) due to the redistribution of metals in the solder alloy and even on the copper pads themselves, that get sort of "eaten away" by solder to an extent. This thing is well known since the 90s in scientific articles, before even the PS2 came to be. Flip chips are basically time bombs likely to fail sooner or later IF serious heat sinking countermeasures are not taken. Redistribution of metal is faster at high temperatures. Board warping and solder ball cracking kick in earlier if the console isn't cooled down properly; this sort of design flaws contribute to the overall behaviour of the solder.

Reballing isn't guaranteed to fix the problem; flip chips have tiny solder balls between the chip itself (that shiny rectangle on the smaller organic board) and the organic board, which is soldered directly on the motherboard. If those tiny solder balls fail, there ain't any "reballing" that can fix it, only a complete CPU/GPU/APU replacement with a brand new one.

Nice video. My PS4 has been the most reliable Playstation I’ve ever owned since my OG Playstation, not PSOne, but just plain old Playstation ala 1996. PS2 had disc read problems, so I bought a slim, and PS3 I had repaired four times, and bought another.

PS4 has been rock solid so far. I use it everyday, between 2-10 hours a day as its our entertainment center basically. Plays blurays, youtube, Hulu, HBOgo, Netflix, Amazon, etc.

My Ps4 has always been plugged into a power strip and I've been having the blue light problem as well. Glad there is still a possibility for me to fix my ps4 without getting a hardware fix/ps4 replacement.
