This doesn’t look nearly as good as HBOs rendition. Which is why it’s the highest rated series in TV history. It was just amazing. We’ve seen this story done right. I love the history behind the story, but this is one where I definitely feel like we have the perfect version of this already.

Just finished watching it. Great Movie. And i am respecting all liquidators in 1986 Chernobyl Disaster... Pray for their souls who didn't make it.

everybody asking why this movie exists. its simple, HBO series captures the whole thing including the part that makes russians look bad and uncaring about safety regarding nuclear handling. so they make their own version where the whole movie is about the people sacrificing themselves to do what needs to be done. Yes i just saw the movie to check it out, but the scenes where they are in the pipes or underwater are so long compared to the rest of the drama going on around chernobyl and privyat (sorry if i misspell it). i think they did this to really show the complexity of the task that was ahead of those people and that they sacrifice themselves. but for me the scenes where too long, like i swear there was atleast 20 minutes of intense swimming and i was "why do you need to add so many swimming scenes?" all of the scenes where the guys are trying to fix the problem by going into it (sacrificing themselves) have more screentime than rest of the plot.

Why do they have to Titanic-ize their movie? What I love about HBO's is that it has less love story and more on the disaster

Not the same without the masterful HBO soundtrack. That score absolutely made that series.

HBO's chernobyl portrayed the true terror spreaded in USSR in 1986, every season has it's reputation of being terrible, heroic, sacrificing and elegant all in one breadth, and that detailing of every single thing, this all makes it clear that this russian movie is not gonna make it up to the mark.
