Interesting video. As a hack golfer who has played Callaway since 1998, I can tell you that it isn’t about the distance for me. It’s about the control and not spraying shots everywhere. I’m starting this year with new Elyte driver, 3W and HL irons, my 3rd set of Callaway clubs. The Elyte’s just feel amazing, improving my confidence and the result is staying in the fairway more, not just simply in play. Sure, I spent a small fortune on these clubs, but I’m not buying clubs every year. I feel like these Elyte’s will last me until I don’t play golf any longer.

Summed up well at the end. Options for everyone, someone starting the game or has very old clubs can find value with gear that's a few years old. Important to get the correct shaft.

As with the Taylormade comparison, this was a good video James. I think you were right in saying that the Paradym might be a better choice. I’ve got a Mavrik, and having tried some of the newer drivers, I haven’t found them to be longer or more forgiving enough to warrant spending big money. However, I have noticed a big difference in hybrid technology. Cheers.

Hi James, I have a few drivers including the Epic Flash model too. Based on your test, I would choose the Epic Flash. Performance was very acceptable for my handicap range. My go to driver is a Taylormade Sim 2 Max and it’s a fantastic driver.

I bought this head and headcover in absolutely mint condition 2nd hand and a graphite design shaft off ebay from a Japanese vendor that was already Callaway tipped. Built it for 75% less than this years release with that premium shaft upgrade. I will hang on to my cash thanks very much and not cry over the measly 4 yards I may or may not lose vs new. And I can pop a newer-but-used Cally head on this shaft (a max version, perhaps) at any time in the future because the shaft is amazing for me. There is always a massive supply of old Callaway heads or drivers because of their new sales every season.

Waited an extra year and picked up a TM stealth 2 plus with an Accra shaft for 279 and love it

I have never purchased a brand new driver for the reasons shown. My current gamer is a RadX and I love it. I bought it last year for $149 with delivery. Looked brand new. Looking to upgrade soon but will be for a 2-3 year old model. Great review James.

Love the old vs new videos James.
Most golfer will rather buy new clubs than work on swing tempo, general swing and follow through.
Anyone can play good golf with an old club - played 1999 Cobra 5 wood the other day that outperformed 2021 Ping and Titleist. Shaft was a bit wobbly - just slowed down swing speed and it worked a treat.

All sellers say: buy our new clubs = faster swing speed, increased distance and accuracy.
It’s Not true.

Big advocate of ‘Older is better than new’!

Wish we had a Golf Clubs for Cash in Australia. The store looks amazing. These comparisons are great James. It’s all about choice and you can get a great driver for a decent price, A I smoke is the best driver I’ve hit though

Good topic! I just got a new driver in the mail today. X2 hot pro, Kai’li 70x shaft for… get ready… $64!! I still have the original X Hot pro in the bag, but needed an x flex shaft. I also need to buy an engagement ring. Gotta keep the budget intact while still finding fairways!

Played epic flash sub zero for years when you hit the middle its as good as any driver on the market today. Problem was it was quite unforgiving compared to the standard epic flash. Still use the standard epic flash today. Paired with the Tensei 65 x its very controllable medium launch which I what I love about it. I don’t need an extra 10 yards.

Great video. And I totally agree with your point. You don’t have to get the latest version to get the performance. All of the manufacturers are limited in distance performance by rules of golf set by the governing bodies of the game. Performance standards. But they’re not limited where distribution and consistency is concerned. For me personally I found the biggest jump in performance (for me) was when they introduced the Rogue ST and the performance jump was dispersion and forgiveness or consistency. It wasn’t really any longer distance on my best hits but the dispersion was just better and that translated into more of the best hits and keeping the ball in the middle of the fairway. And I think the new drivers are still more forgiving and consistent than the older, like six to ten years older, models. But being able to get such high performance at 1/3 of the new equipment prices is a absolute bonus

Great comparison James.
I bought my Epic Flash driver off eBay 3 years ago and only cost me £200 then. As a 16 handicapper, spending my hard earned pounds on lessons rather than very marginal gains in technology ATM.

Would love to see you test the new Sub70 859 driver. DTC but with new, patent pending tech at a really good price point.

I've been playing for nearly 4 years now. Started with the 90s Big Bertha, then Epic, Paradym, and now Ping G430 Max10K. As i moved between drivers, i feel my distance is about the same as I'm improving my game, the but left/right dispersion is VASTLY improved with my Ping, increasing my confidence at the tee box and overall fun.

Played today and one of my friends surprised me. He wasnt happy with the way he was hitting his PING430 Driver, and so, he left it at home and showed up with his old TaylorMade M4.
He hit it well off the tee all day.
