In my opinion, the single greatest version of 'Smile' by Charlie Chaplin. Recorded by Tony Bennett in 1959, and included on the 2002 compilation 'The Essential Tony Bennett', here it is. Enjoy.

Just lost my home so for the second time this week, I turned to this Tony Bennett song.
Whenever Mom and I heard this, I'd ask her if she remembered who I told her had composed it. She always hesitated a moment, smiled, and answered: Charlie Chaplin.
Tony, our hearts are broken, but this song, and your others, will pull us through.

R.I.P. dearest Tony Bennett, my family loved you. In 2013, when my husband died, the priest agreed with me and my son to have Tony Bennett singing ''Smile'' at the end of the ceremony. Listening to this song brings back many memories.

When I was a child my dad, who had a beautiful voice, used to sing this to my mom when she was sad. He knew Tony Bennett and this is the version he sang and the recording he played. Mom, BTW, also had a beautiful voice. She'd come into our bedroom every morning and wake us up singing. She died last year at 95, I miss her very very much.

This orchestion/arrangement is exquisite, a little ahead of its time. Sounds like this was remastered. RIP Tony. Thank you for all you gave us and for all the magical duets.

This is definitely the best version of this song ever recorded. The way Tony sings, along with the beautiful orchestration and arrangement, it just doesn't get any better than this.

Probably my favorite song of all time, written by one of the greatest comic geniuses of all time, sung by one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

I've listened to Tony Bennett my ENTIRE LIFE. Born in '63. I most likely heard these gorgeous standards first from momma belly. Should be required listening for everyone, everywhere

I discovered this song by accident, and the shock that hit me upon recognizing Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' hidden in the melody, I almost teared up, it was one of the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. The soft, consoling lyrics on top of the orchestral melody all culminated to make one heart-moving work of art.

One of my most cherished memories is seeing Tony Bennett perform this beautiful, touching song in concert in 2010 in Hyannis, Mass. I saw his concert at the same location the year before and had the privilege of meeting him afterwards. I told him "Mr. Bennett, I traveled all the way from Texas to see your show tonight, and it was the most entertaining concert I have ever seen!".

After that, I got to visit with his drummer, Harold Jones; we discussed our favorite jazz albums. It was a priceless experience!
