I worked as a wholesale produce buyer for decades. The fruits of the dirty dozen are sprayed several times over their growth time. The poisons are IN the fruit not just on the skin and outside. You can't just wash them off. Washing may remove the fungicides that are sprayed by shippers but not the pesticides or herbicides.
