Voron V0.1 Motor Comparison (OMC vs. LDO)

Показать описание
Very quick video comparing the loudness of two different A/B motor options for the Voron V0.1, first in spreadcycle, then stealthchop. On the left is the OMC 14HS20-1504S (stepperonline) and the right is the LDO-35STH48-1684AH(VRN) (LDO kits).

Both are configured identically with 0.9A run current.

Update: The OMC motors are good motors; I did not mean to imply otherwise. I just wanted to show a comparison; they just happen to be louder. The honking problem is also quite rare (I only know of one or two other people having it.) They do have a different torque curve too (not necessarily better; different), so there are trade-offs. The LDO have a higher current rating.

Amazing the motors make that much difference. I had always thought it was all down to the drivers, and the motor made little difference in sound.

You helped me with exactly this last week on the discord. Many thanks. I ripped the OMC motors out of one of mine and replaced with LDO ones. Much quieter. Won’t make that mistake again. The omc motors were expensive as well.

Thank you! I thought the HONK on mine was a builder issue, and not just the steppers. I hear the HONK now and then, and start looking for binding because of it.

I wonder how much of this is due to higher KV / fewer windings / thicker winding wire / lower inductance.

Well, luckily I happen to have bought LDO motors for my machine from the get-go :)

OMC have been seen to have less Artifacts on diagonals for some reason

Just to make it clear, OMC motors are 1.5A, while LDO motors are 1.68A. Do you have correct values in your printer.cfg files? I bet OMC motors could be louder and produce honks if they are supplied with an excess current.

damn it I was gonna do the same video xD
oh well :P
i'm still gonna try and make an in-depth video once I escape my country and get access to nice motors etc

i wonder if this is still gonna be a thing if I use decouplers to decouple my steppers from the belt path etc. and use a dowel pin and a closed belt to isolate it's belt tension diversion

Could you share the gcode, would love to test this on machine

Hello, thanks for the great video. I am amazed at the skirt with integrated OLED display, did you design it yourself? Would you share it with the community?

Love the colour combos where did you get the stl for the dual colour on the top door hinge?

Welp. Different motors got different resonance frequence. Increase or decrease the speed a littel bit might help reduce the noise.

Is the tantalus style 3d printer making a comeback? when everyone else is going bigger this is going smaller lol I like it, I remember building a tantalus nearly a decade ago out of ABS printed 20X20 extrusion profiles, Its no longer being used, but I still have that little printer on a shelf collecting dust, those 14hs20 are pretty strong for a nema14 motor huh.
