The realization that Yancy, Fry's brother, broke the family tradition by naming his son after his missing brother hits hard. In the first episode of Futurama, Fry cheers after discovering that everyone he knew is dead, but as the series progresses, we discover the impact his disappearance had on his family and loved ones. Yancy, who had constantly competed with Fry, was so devastated by his brother's disappearance that he named his son after him to honor his memory. And even Seymour, the dog Fry believed would forget him, had waited until his dying day for his beloved friend's return. The tragedy lies in the fact that Fry never got to know the depth of love and care his family had for him, and how much his absence affected their lives.
