Yes the movie came out on April 21 but I couldn’t find it in my area so I’ve been thrilled that it’s coming to Hulu so that I can finally watch it

It came out in theaters April 21st. If it is still showing at a theater near you, please go see it. It's a film worth supporting. Kelvin Harrison Jr. was fantastic as St. Georges.

Idk why, but I think the movie was not enough to feature the greatness of Joseph Bologne. He really was the 'double threat, ' in addition to being a musical genius, he was one of the best fencing master too. He toured Europe, was invited to England to exhibit his fencing ability. It's unfortunate they can only focus on one of his great talents on the screen. Oh well, but all in all pretty good movie, 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Saw it in the theater-- so good! Such a great movie, on the astonishing life of a remarkable man who has been largely forgotten due to Napoleon's efforts in the 1800s. Music, acting, costumes-- all superb, and came together to create such an inspiring film. My one issue was that of the ageist and misogynistic treatment of the woman who Joseph rejected and who then retaliated against him. In reality, she (Marie-Madeleine Guimard) was a ballerina famed for her physical beauty. In the film, instead of a young and beautiful dancer who Joseph rejected because he valued intelligence/character/integrity, the film made her into an old and physically unattractive opera singer. The spiteful old woman is a sexist trope, and in this film this was factually false as well as being misogynistic. How disappointing that such a great film could not resist perpetuating the idea that women are only allowed to exist as pretty young ladies or self-sacrificing mothers.

So did he lose his head after being part of the revolution. I seem to remember something like that. The way I read it was that had it all. And then threw it away along with his head. It's the name that's stuck in my head. It is many years ago I read a book about him. 🐝
