Curator of American art, Dr. Marian Wardle, takes us through “Branding the American West: Paintings and Films 1900-1950, an exhibit showing at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art through August 13, 2016.

From the BYU Press Release: “Branding the American West: Paintings and Films, 1900 – 1950,” an exhibition organized by the Brigham Young University (BYU) Museum of Art and the Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, will be on view at the BYU Museum of Art February 19 – August 13, 2016. The ninety pieces in the exhibition together reveal the multiple and changing brandings of the American West during a complicated time of war, racial unrest, and accelerating modernization, with particular focus on the influence of motion pictures in the various iterations of branding.
