Far too many people misunderstand the limited role of the POTUS, have ridiculous expectations of "hope and change" (or whatever) and are therefore bound to be disappointed. Unfortunately, politicians engaged in the system do nothing to disabuse the electorate of this false impression -- to the contrary, when running for office, they actively encourage it.
