Exploring the productive struggle | Teacher Talk with Dan Finkel
Показать описание
How long are you willing to be stuck on a problem? In today's video, we explore the importance of productive struggle.
What we found is young kids can be stuck for maybe 10-20 seconds or if it's a play experience maybe 5-10 minutes. In the higher grades you're going to see students extend that to half an hour to an hour.
We need to teach productive struggle because if you're not doing that you're not helping your students to become better mathematicians.
To be able to do this you have to give them the time to struggle which can be the hardest thing for a teacher to do because there are so many demands on your time.
