The Neolithic is the heyday of stone processing technology. Stone tools were made of slate, quartzite, gneiss, flint. Pieces of stone during processing turned into blanks of the desired shape. They were ground and polished first on special slabs of harder rocks, and then on quartz sandstone. In the Neolithic era, the sawing technique also appeared.
The territory of the North-West of Russia was freed from the ice of the last glaciation around the X-VIII millennia BC. People came here later. Numerous archaeological sites in the Southern Ladoga region have been known since the Neolithic era (V-II millennia BC). People of the Neolithic era are hunters and fishermen. They made tools, weapons, jewelry, and art objects from flint, slate, and other types of stone, bone and horn. They made sharp-bottomed vessels out of clay, decorating them with a comb-and-dimple ornament. Since the end of the II millennium BC . the population of the Southern Ladoga region mastered the smelting of bronze and later, in the I millennium BC, the processing of iron.
Among the most interesting Neolithic monuments are the Ladoga parking lots. They were explored in 1878-1882 during the construction of the Syassky and Svirsky canals on the southern coast of Lake Ladoga. A great contribution to the study of these monuments was made by Professor of St. Petersburg University A. A. Foreigners, who systematized the archaeological and anthropological materials found during excavation.#Travel.
