Why Don't English Clubs Dominate In Europe?

The Premier League is by far the biggest and richest league in Europe, yet Premier League teams have only won six out of the last 24 UEFA Champions Leagues, four out of the last 24 UEFA Europa Leagues, and Newcastle United and Manchester United were knocked out of this season's Champions League in the group stage, both finishing bottom of their groups.

So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a look at English clubs in Europe, both past and present, the reasons for their success or lack thereof, and attempts to answer the question of why Premier League teams aren't more dominant in European competitions.

Because spending $40m on some random dude who had a good season in the championship doesn't actually make that player better than his $2m Venezuelan equivalent that Sevilla may pick up

If money was everything then psg would have won half of UCLs in the last 10 years

From 89-01, Serie A clubs were represented 21 times in 22 European finals, and thats excluding the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Intertoto Cup. A look into this period would good.

Why do English clubs extort their fans with ticketprices when they are already the richest in Europe?

So many excuses for bad management of the teams. Dortmund is 5th in the League and in the CL finals. It comes down to mindset and English teams often seem to lack to at the highest level.

Another issue is many English team's ignorance for tactics. It is not accidental, that Spanish and German coaches are successful in England.

Let's be honest. The Premier League just don't have the best clubs. They actually do have the most big clubs, but not the best.

They spend so much that they still can't beat Sevilla.

england buying players well above their actual value also artificially boosts the view on the league. Especially when players transfer in the premier league. To break it down: the estimated player value of the whole premier league is currently 11 billion EUR, while the second biggest Laliga is currently only 5 billion EUR.
There is absolutely no way that the gap in quality between these 2 leagues is that big.
Premier League is overall the strongest league, but not that much better as everyone believes them to be.

Spanish, Portuguese and German clubs are tactically very good and coached well. I hate the PL clubs excuse that it's a 'harder league' which makes the clubs more fatigued in Europe.
Serie A clubs were by far the best sides and made the finals most years from 1989 - 1998.

Saw this in my subs yesterday and was all ready to watch it during my lunch break.

Disappointingly I had to watch a complete retelling of the 90s Pro wrestling promotion ECW instead.

It should also be said that in those 24 UCLs, out of the 18 that weren’t won by English clubs, 14 of them went to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich who are among the few that can compete financially.
I’d also argue that AC Milan’s win in 02-03 came when Serie A was still a financial powerhouse… so there are only really 3 anomalies.

Because money doesnt play at the pitch. Players do. And the fact that someone is getting 5X more money, doesnt make him 5X better player.
