Came here after watching the narrator, Ewan MacGregor, on the Seth Meyers show. I don't think it's the same chick, bouncing off the rocks, as came out of the water. But I'm a cynic.

why is this classified as comedy? I would classify it as a nature show. And I agree, it can't be the same chick.

Pretty sure these are Common Murres and not Guillemots. Unless you all call them differently on that side of the pond.

A few things cause the chicks to jump:
quicker expansion
The chicks' increased ability to grow and their chances of surviving are enhanced by being in saltwater feeding zones.
More nourishment
The parent does not have to fly back and forth to the colony, so when the chicks are at sea, they can be fed twice as much.
Self-reliance
When the chicks are mature enough, their father takes them out to sea so they can develop their independence.
Typically, the father leads the chicks to the water and signals for them to jump. After that, he stays with them for a period of five to seven weeks, giving them care and nourishment until they're ready to go.
AI that generates is experimental.
Why do young guillemots leave the nest before they're ready can fly?
Scientists believe that the chicks leap from the steep cliffs when their wings are just large enough to act as a primitive parachute. While the male dives for food for his offspring during all daylight hours in late summer, the female has fun at the colony.

Yet hundreds die each year, after getting stranded on land where they can’t take off as they need water. Here in Oslo Norway, it’s a huge problem, and they are found dead and starving everywhere. They all came from Britain, and many colonies has gone extinct.
