Forgetting about EDI when selecting a new ERP?

EDI almost is an after thought when most organizations start to choose or change their ERP/TMS/WMS software. Why is that?

As a best practice, your ERP consultant should just ask you about the type of automation that you'll be doing and what other processes do you include in your order to cash cycle.

EDI should be a part of your overall business operations strategy and needs to be included in the discussion that you are having to implement an ERP for your business. The reason is that incorporating EDI in the process early helps eliminate extra resources and time needed to manually input information into different systems. It could seem a small piece but can make a huge difference in your process efficiency once you integrate both systems.

As a best practice, include EDI as a part of your growth strategy. If your ERP consultant doesn't bring it up, you should. Ask whether they have the expertise to automate your ERP with EDI. If not, you/your ERP consultant needs to find the right resources to help with EDI integration with your ERP.
