OK well I thought I would make a video on how to forging hammers in great detail like the tong series. In this episode I cover hammer eyes in great detail. I will talk about how they should look and what they should do and most importantly how to forge them.

I will cover the tools you need!
hammer eye theory!
how to punch the hammer eye!
how to drift the eye!

I like the white board demo. It helps to see what is going on, or at least how its supposed to go.

Nice hammer Dan.
If you want to stop that hammer head from loosening apply some loctite type wicking grade of thread locker. It penetrates deep swells the wood fills small gaps then sets hard. I have been using it for years but I don't work a hammer as hard as you do.😉

Looking good! Liking the series so far!
Would love to see a snippet on how youd adjust the technique for different hammer styles. (Cross pein, diagonal pein, ball pien....and of course the shoe turning hammer)

What about demonstrating a diagonal pein hammer?

I don't have a traditional anvil with a hardy or a swage block. How would you drift the hole without a hardy?

Thanks

Excellent video. My next project is going to be to try to forge a hammer. Do you anneal the fork truck tine before you start?

I've seen some online that say forklift tines are mild steel. Is that accurate? I would have expect them to be a fairly high quality steel.

I've wondered if drifting a round hole would then go oval when you flatten the cheeks. Thanks for confirming that! Another super informative video, Dan!

Awesome video! Very helpful! The only thing I think might be good is maybe getting a microphone? I found it a little hard to understand you as you are forgeing but could guess the word from the rest of the sentence so not a huge deal. Any way looking forward to the next video!
