For anyone wanting to know the real answer: moderating content isn't a fun job. Few years ago I read that pre AI most of the moderators had to go to therapy because of the content they saw. I'm not talking just about adult content but you know, the trauma inducing kind, like people commiting severe crimes etc - someone has to watch and take those video down before they reach users. This is why they introduced AI & automated system to detect and take down videos - so no human had to do it. Of course they have their flaws, some videos still pass and some are incorrectly flagged, and now the moderators work on those

Idk if it's true or not but usually they have AI system that take down video if the video mention something that they consider vulgar. So it's not the moderator that take down the video but the system itself. The moderator also got randomize video so it's not like focus on 1 specific creator or location

The reason why content moderation is inconsistent as hell is bc Tiktok (and Insta, Twitter, and all similar social medias) rely on ML algorithms rather than human persons to tag suspicious contents and take them down. And as with any self-learning algorithms, it's always a work in progress... Which is particularly terrible if you also have this opaque bureaucracy for moderation. Iirc the human moderation part comes next if the uploader disputes that their content has been taken down unfairly (you can do that! albeit with mixed results). From my own experience Tiktok is the fussiest not with potentially nsfw content, but rather with copyrighted materials.
