There seems to be a little bit of confusion about this. Highlander was a historical movie and were based on real events. The Kurgan also never died. He fakes his death and moved into an acting career under the alias of Clancy Brown.

I don’t even think they paid him all that much compared to everyone else and he had some of the strongest acting ability for the role in the whole cast
