this was a survival show the kids had to go through before their debut, back in 2017 (they debuted in march 25th, 2018 btw). Initially, it was supposedly not a survival (there weren't supposed to be any eliminations at all).

Minho and Felix were eliminated in episodes 4 and 8 respectively. In the episode before last, they were told that they would have a chance to perform as 9 again - and to show their abilities.
So in the last episode, they prepared stages, skz with 7 and 9 members. The public could vote (and the majority voted for 9 members ofc), as well as JYP who praised the boys and their teamwork as 9 rather than 7 members.

If you ask me, I believe all this was a strategy by JYP ent to get out the word of skz on social media, to make people empathize with them. I think it was all planned beforehand. And yeah.. it kinda worked. It's awful that the boys were used like this though.

Watching this in 2024, knowing how far they've come, makes me so proud of them, but it really hurts to watch this again. Minho crying while smiling and trying to cheer up the others even though he got eliminated, Felix feeling so sorry about not being able to continue with the others, and Chan crying for supposedly letting down his members just makes my heart ache. I can't even imagine being Minho just standing there and hearing that he got eliminated, or Felix getting eliminated for not knowing Korean well. Then there's Chan. I can't even imagine the amount of emotions he felt watching two of his members get eliminated. I just want to talk to their past selves through the screen and tell them they debuted together as a whole group, just as planned, and that both Felix and Minho are doing amazing. Stray Kids will be supported by Stays forever. We'll do our best to make sure you guys are happy and safe just as you guys did for us.
