A Discussion around Watch Collecting and why it will never be complete. The watch collecting hobby is vast and there are so many avenues to follow. Though we like the thought that we can one day complete a collection, there is always a new area to explore. From Beaters to Haute Horology & Microbrands. Individual aesthetics, movements and materials draw us back to Hobby and will always keep us eager for more.

I got seriously into watches last April and I'm already looking for the door. I love my watches but I don't think it's the healthiest hobby in the world.

Such technical interest, such aesthetic variety. The naive belief that there is the one perfect watch at the end of the rainbow!

I really enjoyed the part about how much enjoyment just “thinking about a timepiece” brings. I have really found that to be true for me personally. My watch collection is only limited by my imagination in many ways. Great vid!

Ha, love the ending, love your vids especially weekend epics...never missed one! The rabbit hole goes deep.. I don't regret it because it's something I'll enjoy for the rest of my life!

Another fantastic video IDGuy. We all take different paths down the horological road. Where and what we end up with is unique to every collector. This is definitely a very interesting hobby.

There is definitely so much more to watch collecting than ‘possession’ if you’re willing to put some effort in and dig a little below the shiny surface, great sentiment. Nice vid. 👍

Men, what a video, you show it in a very simple way, the complex watch collection is not an easy nor simple topic, so chapeau !! Great video !!!

This video is very well articulated. Watch brands we don't know how to pronounce, this is so true. The end of year stock take for what should stay and what should go? I just end up identifying gaps and alternatives for other watches that I do not have and sometimes explore them. This occasionally ends up in a purchase should funds permit. I'm not biased to digital, mechanical or even smart watches but if something spikes an interest down the rabbit hole I may well go.

Before watches, it was motorcycles. I have owned over 25 of them. Some of them were icons. Some of them were beaters. I even had my grail. Today I have 4 and they are all purposeful and ridden. Been there, done that in a collecting hobby. In the end, I was both satisfied and disenchanted. As time has worn on, I look back fondly at the memories made with the bikes, not the bikes themselves. I have a few regrets, but not many. As I am new to watches and just contemplating a watch beyond the affordable range, it will be interesting to see how my journey progresses with the experience of having been a collector in another space.

Excellent narrative as ever. A limited range for me is not a trap. Since 1975, I have been wearing derivatives of the Submariner dial with relish.

Well done review of collecting and the follies that lead to inevitability....like the ending, and I thought you were infallible :-) Appreciate and thank you for the work you put into your content!

Got into watch hobby 2 years ago and I think i already completed my collection. I have 2 watches and it covers all of the things i needed. 1. G-Shock 5610 my first watch purchase, used it for sports and casual events and 2. Seiko SKX007, my everyday wear in office.

I enjoy collecting and buying in watches in pairs, so I'll see one watch I like and feel the need to pair it with another watch on my wish list... it can get outta control in a hurry. But the anticipation, the planning, and the thrill of finding it is almost (very nearly) better than having the piece on my wrist.

I thought I was "done" when I got my Omega dream watch... I have since bought 7 more watches... there is no END to this....

Will watch collecting ever be complete? Interesting question. I have collected so many different things in my life from Stickers to Star Wars figures to Sneakers to Records to Art and many things in between. Each collection was different but some had different brands and genres. Just like watch collecting.
Like you say, there is always something new to be marvelled at. Whether it be a high end piece or a Microbrand but, not everyone may feel the same. Some may be able to live with one watch but, as someone who has fallen down the ‘grabbit’ hole I will be happy to carry on exploring where the hobby takes me.
A really enjoyable, thought provoking video here my friend. Great work. ✊
