Hi Frank, in the first 2 cooking trials, the fuel used was not wood. It was sugarcane bagasse from a nearby mill in Darbonne. In the 3rd test, the bagasse chips fell through. However we still wanted to find out how Haitians felt about that particular design so we used twigs. In the last test, we created a rocket stove that is theoretically more fuel efficient thereby helping to reduce wood consumption. There are many kinds of innovations. Some are "disruptive" and some are "incremental".

Rocket stove powered by wood are incremental. They reduce the usage of wood compared to the current 3 stone fire.

What we are going for is processing waste bagasse into fuel to power stoves like the rocket and TLUD. This takes larger capital investment. As a small group we are working hard to achieve this.

For solar, there are some in reliability (you need it to be sunny). Storing the energy is a very costly thing which we don't think is practical yet in Haiti.

14:47 theres a bullet shell sound. I can recognize that sound very good. And it sounds to me like a .45 caliber handgun ....

How is this suppose to solve their problem? Maybe I'm blind but those wood chips they are using has to come from a tree. The more chips they use the more tree they have to cut down which will lead to deforestation, erosion and eventually famine. How about going completely green and use some kind of solar System or environmentally safe waste!

Another thing to consider is how to make fuel and stove business models profitable and hence sustainably operated by locals.

As you can see there are many many things to consider when implementing solutions. There is no right or wrong answer, but rather benefits and compromises.

I hope this has shown you that we do consider many options and we are ultimately going for disruptive innovation.

Eating a raw food diet would be a far more easier and renewable source of nutrition.
