Makes sense honestly for plenty of reasons, beyond doing that character for years, dude is in his early 50s, he’s more serious these days and while a lot of people attribute his legacy to that character, it’s tied to a lot of dark times for Em, going through addiction, troubles in his marriage with Kim, stuff with his mom, his kids, and so many other things, he wants to keep reinventing himself I’m all for it, he’s brought us so much joy over the years and I am sure he will continue in new and different ways! I wish him the best!

Slim Shady is already dead. Unlike most famous people's alter egos and personality, Slim Shady was born from real influence. It's not a fictional persona. It's born from his real life struggles, his dark times, his fucked up mom, the fact his music was getting no attention, his abuse, his horrible wife, his addiction to drugs, his constant doubt, (after he blew up) the bickering, hateful critics, feminists, the famous people with opinions, etc. Slim Shady was a REAL personality and person, not some attitude switch like the average rapper or singer does, and it was appealing because it was a fresh diamond in a sea of stone. Something new and controversial that drove the world nuts. After relapse and recovery, he solved his drug addiction, focussed on his daughter, got his life together, made more inspirational and less dark music, got older and matured, and just progressed. Hell he even dyed his hair from blonde to black. Slim Shady was already gone. He tried to revive it from time to time, like on Kamikaze, but it never worked or hit, plus the critics and some fans got on him for it. It's just not who he is anymore, it's not what his life is anymore. So if anything, this kind of just seems like an official announcement of something that happened 14-15 years ago.
