📼Video Summary:
Tower Bridge is one of London's most iconic landmarks, famous for its bascule mechanism that lifts to let ships pass. This video explores its history, engineering, and hidden mechanics. Learn how hydraulic power, counterweights, and suspension cables work together to operate the bridge. We’ll also take you inside the original steam engine rooms, the high-level walkways with a glass floor, and even revisit a 1952 double-decker bus jump! This is a full tour, from construction to modern-day operations.

One of my favourite facts about Tower Bridge is that it was a major highlight of an RAF fighter pilots protest against the government. On the 5th of April 1968, Adam Pollock flew unauthorised in his Hawker Hunter through Tower Bridge in protest of the continued budget cuts and the lack of recognition for the RAFs 50th anniversary.
As always your videos are amazing! The way you explain things and the visuals are so good, seriously underrated.

Jared has reached a point where he can make multiple callbacks to other engineering projects because he’s made videos about all of them… The Jared Owen Cinematic Universe!

(Or just, real life engineering…)

I toured this bridge a few years ago, and got to see the raising of the span. It's the most beautiful bridge I've ever seen (and I've visited many). Great job, Jared.

My 4 year old son is a big fan of your videos. We toured Tower Bridge yesterday and agreed that we would have to find a video to explain everything again. What great excitement when we saw the video that just dropped 17hours ago!

Back in the 1970's my great uncle Charlie worked making the bridge raise and lower. We, as a family, were treated to a full tour with uncle Charlie...unforgettable.

I love all the effort you put into these videos. A lot of creators would just leave the surrounding areas blank, but you went and models a lot of it!

You uploaded this video on the day I first visited Tower Bridge, including the tour and engine room experience. Everything looks exactly as depicted in the animation. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting London!

Thank you for featuring Proopsy in one of your videos. I took your advice and contacted him for modular homes, and the house have been incredible. Paid slightly less than $29k, and now I’ve paid off my $129k 15 year loan in 8 months. Now totally debt free because I rent it out on Airbnb. Love having no debt for the last 5 months. Thank you Proopsy!

Jared Owen has done it again! A clear and concise explanation that my 5 yr old daughter just loves! She says she wants to be an engineer so that she can design and build something Jared will one day cover in one of his videos. Huzzah!

And 120-odd years later Tom Scott would come along and break it 😂

(Amazing vid! The animations just keep getting better. We used to live a bit further down the river near the Thames Barrier…another London engineering marvel😊)

this might be the best channel breaking down mechanical systems in an engaging and accessible format!!

May 2024 I visited London for the first time and took the full tour of the bridge. And I was amazed by how precise your video is, even the shops, etc.
Congratulations
