A 1995 memorial tribute TV broadcast devoted to the most famous horror movie host of the Tampa/St Petersburg area of Florida, Dr. Paul Bearer (AKA Dick Bennick), who hosted Saturday afternoon's "Creature Feature" on WTOG TV Channel 44 from 1973 until his passing in 1995.
As a kid growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, I have fond memories of many a Saturday afternoon spent watching monster movies and horror films, both classic and not-so-classic, hosted by Dr Paul Bearer in his "Tenement Castle". Hopefully many "fright fans" like myself who grew up watching Creature Feature will enjoy this.

Note: this transfer is taken from a VHS recording that was missing approximately the first minute of the program.

Some of the best times of my tumultuous childhood revolve around Creature Feature and Dr. Paul. I remember more Saturday afternoons than any other days of my 1970s, and with great fondness. I don't know if Dick Bennick knew he was having such a positive effect on his audience, but I like to thing that he knew he was genuinely beloved.

Loved Creature Feature with Dr. Paul! Such a dry and corny sense of humor. So awesome!

I absolutely LOVED Dr Paul Bearer, and never missed one of his shows when I was a kid. What a historic, wonderful, childhood memory.

RIP Dr Paul. Watched you every Saturday as a kid and still tell people how cool you were. One day I hope they can put your stuff on disc.

I loved watching Creature Feature on 44 as well as Gordon Solie and Championship Wrestling from Florida that was taped at the National Guard armory on Kennedy. Temple Terrace and the Suncoast were a great place to grow up during the '70s and '80s. Man I miss those times! BTW I noticed Barbara Callahan was doing the WTOG tribute to the doc. Unfortunately she has passed away as well. Thanks for the post and bringing back some wonderful memories of those wonderful years.

I remember Dr Paul from his days on Shock Theater, WGHP Channel 8, High Point, N.C. Shock Theater ran on Saturday nights 11:30 pm till 2:30 am as it ran double feature. After he left Shock Theater ran without a host till late 1981.

I met him at Florland Mall when I was 9. (1981). He was creepy but very nice to all the kids.

To this day I still remember Dr Paul saying he was going to the stock car race in Rockingham to see his favorite racer Stale Yarborough.
