The modem would be there so they didn't have to get it passed for telco use. The ISDN uses the S-BUS so would have plugged into the Telco provided Network Termination Unit. Clever way of bypassing another certification! Also I don't think it records anything. It just streams with a small buffer directly over the network to the TV/Radio Station. Well that is what the ones in AUS did anyway.

AT29C's are weird. Had to implement my own erase and write routines for them in assembler once. True pain in the ass devices. :)

You think they could design in an isa or pci modem. I get not building it in natively to avoid certs from Telco, but a whole external modem? 😂
