THIS is how you sound good on guitar. SPOILER: it's not only the rig...

We talk so much about pickups, pedals and amps but forget about the most important tone shaping factor: the player. To be even more exact: the player's ATTITUDE. That's what makes a guitar rig sound good.
Let's break that down in this video. Enjoy!

** Why the ANZEIGE (=Ad) message? **
According to german laws everyone has to mark their videos as advertisements as soon as there's a single "subject relevant" product, tag or link in it. Even if you didn't get paid for making that video. Sounds confusing and it really doesn't help the viewer to see which is a paid review and which isn't.
--- The line of truth: Is this actually a paid review? No it isn't but I have affiliate links in the description box. (I update this line for every video).

The most important: Find the guitar(s), amp and cab that fit your playing style. I still don't understand why you don't have like a million more subscribers. Your channel is so much better with superb playing and knowledge about guitar and gear.

Spot on Kris! Attitude comes from understanding. Understanding comes from experience/learning where motivation is fueled by the desire which might come from seeing some having attitude in the tone.

Very cool video. Playing guitar is communicating without words. So using attitude and dynamics are like your vocal inflections when you speak with your mouth. Playing guitar (or any instrument for that matter...but guitar is the best! 😎) is very human, for lack of a better term. Especially with recording. Forget the grid. Do NOT copy and paste. Forget perfect timing all the time and making everything polished. Also, leave those little “mistakes” in. As long as those “mistakes” make sense. It makes for better and more attitude! 👍🏻

This is a great video. It's taken me a good many years to incorporate these small inflections and dynamics into my playing. Small volume knob manipulations make a huge difference, as well as the metal picks I use from Zenfire. I use a combination of both fingers and pick on some songs, always keeping the pick tucked in my hand for easy access (Chris Buck style.)

Thanks Kris! I think we all have to be reminded of this . The attitude or performance is so important. I know this but at I times I forget .

Dude, what an awesome demonstration of several different ways to find your own sound… super interesting! And what a killer combo, the treble booster + the toxic twins! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Right on man..this is the number one difference between players...the individuality and how everyone plays a little or a lot different than the next guy...even through same rig same gear different players will sound very different...

I wish there was a piece if gear that could "add" dynamics, but it takes years and years and a hell of a lot of mindfulness IMHO. I've always thought controlling dynamics in a crazy ol' rock and roll situation, with your heart pounding, and your blood and adrenaline rushing, ... is paralleled by how one interacts around any high energy circumstance that requires a measured approach for ideal performance and execution. Awesome topic man, cheers.

Really great pointers. I liked your examples, esp Chris Buck. I would add Derek Trucks... talk about 'feel'!!

Yeah, man! You are totally right. I think, attitude comes from confidence. And to play with confidence often/always improves your overall technique and creativity. You can't play with attitude without being confident and so you end up having a harder time to play. And you can hear (and feel) that.

Super good tips I need to work a lot on! Thank you, Chris!🤝

Certain guitars, pedals, pickups, picks, string brands and gauges, all lend itself to a better outcome. Your tone and how you perceive it is entirely on you and your approach. Tone is in your hands period. How you walk, talk, and think is YOUr approach and makes you in charge of how it is also perceived by others when you play live. People thought Jimmy Page was sloppy at times… they failed to understand his sources early in his influences and what riffs he gravitated to in his formative years…. You cannot mistake his style and early black blues influences. Just the same, SRV and EVH crafted their skills around the sounds and tones that drove them to play and overplay themselves. Rarely do you hear the same thing twice live as they always evolve by playing around their trademark licks…. All basic but with their attitude….. all the theory in the world, all the books written, cannot replace the unique approach to each individual who is as individual as their fingerprints…… just find your dirty and your clean tone based on your equipment and play, but listen to what you hear in your own head. You will evolve into a better intuitive player and fit into your own box…. And if you want to really sound unique…. Play your guitar like a singer sings, a horn player plays…. And stop playing typewriter sounding boxes you learned from Mel Bay…… just play with your sound!! Be you… it is OK!!! Haha

It's a good reminder. We forget the small things, and jump too fast ahead too quick. My suggestion is use patience - stay just a few milliseconds longer on each note, listen to it, feel it, taste it, hear it, wiggle it, show it, make it umami. Chris Buck is a master of this.

Awesome video.. you are so right seems like when you get older you search more for quality than quantity.. speaking of using a pick I've always used the side of it on everything people tell me that's incorrect could be I guess it works for me..good guitar work bro. As always 2thumbs up...
