Possibly a large drop of molten glass that was trimmed from the end of a piece in progress? Sometimes I watch videos of people making vases and whatnot and they cut off the excess.

I would guess that this is carnelian glass.
Why that shape?
Its purpose?
I don’t know, but I do have carnelian glass beads that have this look.
