How Long Should Your Videos Be?

Do longer videos get more love from the YouTube algorithm? Are hour-long podcasts getting more exposure than your 2-minute short film? This video covers video length as it pertains to YouTube’s search & discovery systems.

Specially when they come to learn something.

I use to make 10-15 minute videos about 2x a week. My audience kept asking for longer videos so I started making 20-30 minute long videos. Trouble is, longer videos take longer to produce so then they get mad that they're not getting 2 videos per week. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. There's no satisfying everybody. Whatever your length of video is, the most important thing is to stay consistent. I tried going back to shorter videos and that pissed them off! Your audience gets use to certain lengths so stick within a very specific time frame. I learned this the hard way.

I only read a few comments, and it is amazing how misinformed and paranoid people are.
There are comments saying YouTube rather to promote bad content instead of good ones.
There are comments saying that this video teach us nothing.
But actually, this video is telling us only one thing: to keep our content with the better quality as we can, don't matter how long it takes.
Simple like that.

I watched this video 2 months ago, at that time everyone around me was talking about "shorter is better" and I was working on a documentary !!the word you said it "it depends on how your topic takes" made a big difference in my believing system.

I kept going, guess what?! the video that made me hit the 1000 sub and 4000 hrs was 15 min and it was documentary!

"Run time should match the content" is a great statement that I just wrote down. That helps me not worry as much about trying to cram too much in too quickly.

Translation: We don't want to tell you how the algorithm works because we don't want creators to game it. We do favour videos based on time but we can't reveal specifics or it will decrease the effectiveness of the algorithm to distinguish quality content from dross

Video A: 4 minutes long, 78% average watch percentage, extremely high like percentage, doesn't get promoted.
Video B: 20 minutes long, 48% average watch percentage, lower like percentage, gets highly promoted.
