Seems like the safety issue should be looked at from a parenting standpoint. People will want to avoid owning a feature for “drowning” reasons. As a boy, I lived and and played among the streams, lakes and rivers from a very young age. I am now an outdoor specialist.I would challenge parents to get your kids outside- Build a water feature to introduce them to the “experience” of nature- educate them on the hazards of water- Teach them to swim- Teach them to be passionate about our planet! Nature needs us more than ever!

I’ve never thought about disadvantages to a pondless waterfall. I absolutely love them, they look good, give the sound of water and are easy to look after. Perfect to relax by and enjoy no matter the weather

You forgot to include that all the birds which flock to the water feature to drink and bath and splash and play, will poop on the rocks, typically on the character boulders.

What liner should I be using in my pond? Going from a preformed to I liner

Hi there, thank you for the informative videos. I would like to design a pondless water feature that my 5-month old son can play in as he grows up. Could you explain the addition of a bib liner? Does the liner have a drain valve that can be closed to create a temporary pooling effect? If so, does the liner require some type of filter at the valve? Thanks for the help! Cheers

Hi. Do I need to be worried about the build up of algae over time in a system like this? I have just come across a website in America (Russellwatergardens) which makes out that most conventional pondless waterfalls are going to suffer from not being able to clean them out. Thanks.

Hi Mark I am building a pond I havr a question once you have put in the liner in the pond do you have to have like a 1 inch trench all around the pond to add the slabs or can you just put them on top as the same level with the garden and then cover the liner with soil and rocks I don't have shelfs as it is for koi and it is a oval shape. I do not want to add concrete

Can I ask a question off theme, I have lost12 fish in the past week, we have been turning our pump off and then turning it back on for a few hours, I think it’s lack of oxygen, I have just added an additional air pump do you think this will help

Sorry to bother you but can I ask for your assistance.

I’ve noticed that one of my goldfish in my raised patio pond has started to bully the other fish. This fish is slightly smaller than the other 4 goldfish in the pond. I think the problem is that they are all becoming hungry as the temperature in the south is mild for the time year. For weeks the air temperature has been between 4c - 13c & the forecast is for this to continue. The fish have become more active & are searching for food. I stopped feeding the fish at the beginning of winter. This fish is particularly aggressive towards two others, it goes for their bodies as well as their fins, one has flowing fins.

All the fish are in good health, the water is oxygenated and they have plenty of space & water quality is good. There are plants in the pond for them to graze on.
I have just placed this fish in a bucket to give the others respite but it cannot remain there for more than a few hours.
I have considered feeding the fish a small amount of food but am reluctant to do this as we are only part way through the winter.Please can you advise me.

Hi mark i need some advise if that's ok, i currently have a pond and waterfall, ever since we installed the waterfall the water level in the pond began to drop, we have replaced the waterfall liner and hose and there is no way the water can escape on the waterfall now, however the level is still dropping, do you think it is definitely the pond liner? Thanks

I have a cheeky question for you.. I have an old farm pond in my garden. a few winters ago I cleared it out with a digger and exposed the land drain that was feeding it so it filled again. That following summer it was clogged with algae (i guessed from the nutrients flooding in from the land drain, it was bad before i dig it out too), so i blocked the land drain and diverted our storm water in. Long story short i must have exposed a land drain leading away from the pond (with the digger) as it wont hold water above a certain level, i have found one and blocked it but cannot see any others. is there a way of working out where the water is leaking from? some sort of dye or something? im at a loss and its such an important wildlife hub i dont want to do anything drastic..
