Raw Betaflight 4.2 First Impressions

preview_player
Показать описание
My very first battery on Betaflight 4.2.1. Default settings with my rates and bidirectional Dshot enabled for RPM filtering.

The bobbles were solved by changing the BLHeli_32 PWM frequency from 48kHz to 24kHz (there is a typo in the video). The issue was not Betaflight related.

I still tune my quads as your tunning style and they still fly like charm even with 4.2 so I keep to the video you already have in your channel. Again BIG thank YOU!

Total newb here. And your vids as of late,
Have been a huge help. I just got a 5” (geprc
Mark4 4K) and I Have no idea where to start.
So this is a Big help to me. Thank you. Please
do more In depth tuning including filter setup, rpm
Filtering, and esc setups. I’d love to know
How to get the most out of what I have!!!

Glad you got the bobbles sorted, would like to see how you tune 4.2 for sure 👍😎
BTW I tried defaults on a 5 inch with D min turned off and it was pretty smooth, much better after some tuning though.

remember rpm filter with default filters does usually overfilter if other filters arent adjusted. so not sure what you changed there but that could incur some extra latency that a seasoned pilot like you would notice. also might want to look at digital idle to make sure at 0 throttle you aren't losing authority with air mode. tuning guide for 4.2 release is pretty solid starting point

Yes, we need a 4.2 tuning video please Timmy 🤙🏾

Not sure if you have gone through this as of yet. But when you use bidirectional dshot. Your lpfilters on gyro can go up substantially. Your dynamic lpfilters should be 0/ 90/300 would be a good starting point. When you turned on bidirectional dshot. You added 3 notch filters per axis. Adds up to a lot of phase delay when you leave the other filters as they were . It is written in the tuning notes for betaflight 4.1 and 4.2. Surprising that the propwash was good to you if you didn't reduce the other filters at all. Unfortunately betaflight is meant to work with a huge array of quads and tuning is part of the game. There's alot of other stuff you can do to get rid of the bobbles while using 48 kHz pwm. Use thrust_linear in cli. It basically increases pid strength at low throttle at the expense of pid strength at high throttle. Pid gains as a whole can be increased . Your dmin gains are way too low for 6" quads. These are just a few suggestions. I have 3 different 6" quads with different tuning problems i had to go through. Overall they fly good now. I do have one kiss quad running fettec gear. It has bounce back issues I can't seem to ever get rid of if I'm doing sharp moves. I think that's where betaflight wins with a bigger quad. It has a I term relax feature as well as a d min feature that when tuned can help drastically with sharp moves and iterm related bounceback. Kiss is simple for sure. Excellent especially with a 5" quad. But it get out of its realm the bigger your quads get.

JB has a video on the 5 things u need to change before doing 4 2, maybe you should check that out. but thanks for the great info as usual

I find it odd that you say its bad. Its better then its ever been just needs tuning theres more tools in the bix then ever before.

I had same issues with de descending... And I didn't know what to tune because this issue has no specific name... Looking forward for your tune :)

Defaut + RPM notch is not default ;).
If you activation RPM notch you should de-active (or increase) other filter, else you will have too much filtering
1900Kv on 4S is not really the default setup too. You can probable set the global slider to 1.3 (2500Kv/1900Kv) to compensate the lack of power

Hey Timmy, subscribed last week and I’m happy to see some new content being posted. I’m about to dive into the world of quads and I need some help with receivers. I use DX6I and see you are not using the SPM4650. Is there a reason you went Lemon? Can you provide a link to the LemonRx you’re using here? Also maybe future ideas could be some videos on soldering Spektrum receivers to various boards. (Mamba F405 mini 3, F4, ...) I feel the struggle is having confidence the receivers will work and that soldering is correct. Thanks for the helpful videos.

I have the same problem, just not as bad. I checked my pwm an I was already at 24hz. Trying to raise my i an see if that will work.

I had those bobbles on 4.1 pushing the P gain up fixed it.
