It's been a while since I've done a Patreon request and I was more than happy to take this one on since I've been playing Nier: Replicant a good amount since it came out. I actually was also inspired by FalKKonE's cover of this song after hearing it on my Spotify discover weekly playlist and it was instantly stuck in my head and I had my own ideas of how to take it on. It actually came as a later arrangement idea to play the first half on classical guitar, the original idea being a lead guitar choral thing like I did for my last Rise of Nations cover. I think it was nice to break out the classical guitar again.

I did the filming for this video myself, similiar to how I did God of the Dead from Hades. It's so cool getting to have the human element of handicam for these videos, but it's tough getting that for each week, so I may be moving toward this method in the future while trying to find ways of achieveing the music video style in a way I can just do solo. I hope it was still engaging and fun to watch! This was a monumental arrangement so I really do hope you enjoy listening.

It was my birthday last Friday! This is my first guitar cover as a 30 year old boychild. I'll tell you what, I did NOT expect to still be doing this into my 30's when I started at the age of 19. Someone buy me a video game themed coffin as I'm one step in the grave now. ☠

"It was about 10 years ago when we were working on the original Drakengard that I thought about the meaning of “killing.” I was looking at a lot of games back then, and I saw these messages like “You’ve defeated 100 enemies!” or “Eradicated 100 enemy soldiers!” in an almost gloating manner. But when I thought about it in an extremely calm state of mind, it hit me that gloating about killing a hundred people is strange. I mean, you’re a serial killer if you killed a hundred people. It just struck me as insane. That’s why I decided to have the army of the protagonist in Drakengard be one where everyone’s insane, to create this twisted organization where everyone’s wrong and unjust. I wanted to weave a tale about these twisted people.
And then we worked on Nier…We created this game called Nier, and after the world experienced the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq, we were being bombarded with updates on terrorist organizations and activities even in Japan. That’s when my opinion changed. The vibe I was getting from society was: you don’t have to be insane to kill someone. You just have to think you’re right. So that’s why I made Nier a game revolving around this concept of “being able to kill others if you think you’re right, ” or “everyone believes that they’re in the right.”"

This is a song about doing whatever it takes, anything to save the one person who matters the most. Damning all the consequences, casting aside any doubts and simply forcing your way through any obstacle. A single minded determination that doesn't care about any other side of the conflict. Both sides of this battle see things this way, and it results in the end of humanity because of it.

This song does such a brilliant job of capturing these apocalyptic stakes, a battle that was never meant to happen. This cover is amazing, thank you for creating it. The best part about the NieR Replicant remaster is now everyone can experience the original soundtrack that Automata borrowed so much from.

I haven't listened to your covers in a while, not totally sure why. Then this popped up on my YT homepage and ofc I clicked on it because Shadowlord is one of the greatest pieces of VGM ever composed. And you absolutely nailed this one. The classical intro fits perfectly. The playing there is particularly clean and fantastically mixed. And then the metal part hits. I wasn't the biggest fan of the rift intro before it fully comes in, but those doubts were instantly removed. Your rhythm guitar work is fantastic and captures the frantic energy of the original in a way that few other covers do. Love this one, guess I need to go back and listen to your other covers I missed then.
