To stop maggots infesting your garbage you can use table salt in your garbage bags. Place a small cup salt into the bag when you first use it, and at the end of each day sprinkle more salt over the garbage, especially any food waste. When the garbage bag is full, place another small cup over the top of the garbage, cover any food waste and tied bag properly. This will stop maggots, flies, rats, mice, cockroaches, dogs, cats and any wild animals going into your trash can ( rubbish bin, I am from the UK ). No need to use pesticides and salt does not break down, so keep on working until your trash can is emptied.

My maggots lived through hand sanitizer. Soap, bleach and hot water. Idk what to do anymore so I vacuumed them up

If you clean your trash bin out but it still keeps getting maggots try double bagging any food you throw out and also place mothballs at the bottom of your trash bin

I used toilet cleaner on the bin, let it stay for 6 hours, and then cleaned it with water. All maggots were dead and the bin was clean.

I dont tend keep my rubbish, I had maggots and flies, the binman came along emptied it then surprising the maggots and flies vanished and I didn't even have to pour bleach or waste time or anything. Plus I keep my bin outside and only really open it when I'm putting rubbish inside it so it doesn't really bother me what lives inside it as I don't plan on moving into it anytime soon. If maggots in your bin keeps you awake at night I recommend putting food scraps inside a container or plastic bag before putting them in your bin so nothing can lay eggs.

I didn’t even think of boiling water. Thank you! I filled the can a bit with water and added bleach and couldn’t believe they were still alive. I tried it again today with straight bleach and they were still alive for a long time. I can’t tell if they are actually dead or just near death or if I dump them out they will survive, but I’m going to try boiling water now so I can move on.
